Robert Fripp (born 16 May 1946) is an English guitarist, composer and record producer.
As a guitarist for the progressive rock band King Crimson, Fripp has been the only member to have played in all of King Crimson's line-ups from their inception in the late 1960s to the present. He is the driving creative and political force of the group, bearing responsibility for line-up changes and ending and resuming the group at various points. He has also worked extensively as a studio musician, notably with singer David Bowie on the albums "Heroes" and Scary Monsters, and contributed sounds to the Windows Vista operating system. His complete discography lists more than seven hundred releases over four decades.
He is ranked 62nd on Rolling Stone magazine's 2011 list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" after having been ranked by David Fricke 42nd on its 2003 list. Tied with Andrés Segovia, he also is ranked 47th on Gibson.com's "Top 50 guitarists of all time".
His compositions often feature unusual time signatures, which have been influenced by classical and folk traditions. His innovations have included Frippertronics, soundscapes, and new standard tuning.
Welcome to the 6th episode of Failure to Fracture, a series that highlights my now-20-year struggle to play the hardest song I've ever encountered: "Fracture" by King Crimson. Robert Fripp, the composer and guitarist on the track, writes: "Fracture is impossible to play." What on earth does this mean? Special thanks to Steve Ball and Paul Richards for their input on the script. Full transcript available at http://makeweirdmusic.com/learn/fracture/impossible See also: https://www.dgmlive.com/diaries/Robert%20Fripp/RF_diary_2016_Nov_30 Make Weird Music exists to encourage musicians and music enthusiasts to expand their creative horizons through interviews, educational content, and sharing of artistic music. Starless by King Crimson. Another taster from the new King Crimson album - "Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind". As those lucky enough to have seen it live will know, the opening chord of this song are often accompanied by an intake of breath. Like an incoming tide of realisation, all the variations on "I never thought I’d hear this live", or "crikey, this is my favourite", "OMG I’ve died and gone to heaven" and a few more sentiments besides. The complexities behind capturing the seven-headed Crimson on video are described in David Singleton's liner notes : "It is something of a truism in the history of Crimson that any show that is filmed will not be one when heaven meets earth and the angels descend. The presence of cameras and cameramen iintroduces an intrusive elemen...
Interviewed by VJ John Gradick. I had to edit out the King Crimson videos due to YouTube Copyright flags. The Video Music Channel was an independent cable music service from approx 1982 to 1984, and over the air via WVEU 1984-1985. I was Production Manager and Senior Editor. At the time, MTV had not entered the Atlanta market. The VMC was beloved locally as it was Atlanta's only source for music videos, amassing a library of over 4000 clips and a full staff of VJs and program producers. Multiple mega-selling artists visited the studios, and other interviews and concerts aired from various venues.... although now only a few tapes of these interviews survive. Many VMC video tapes had to be recorded over for reuse because the cost of broadcast tape was so high. Search VMC Atlanta to see more ...

I smile like Chicago
She laughs like the breeze
I try so hard to charm her
With minor mysteries
I collide with her softness
With the whispers and pleas
Echoes of her movements
Delicate obscenities
It's a one quarter rain dance
Half of it's prayer
It's a simplest romance
Rattles high in the air
She's the gentlest pretender
I'm a clown on a spree
Still it's sweet to remember
The way it might be
